So, as a new mom, I'm up at what can politely be called crazy hours. Many times I am up at anytime between 1am and 3am and currently this time is spent in solitude. However, the first four weeks of my daughter's life I was watching MSNBC.
A little back story. For the first few weeks my daughter did not want to sleep anywhere but in her rocker chair in the living room. On top of that she hated for the room to be dark and needed the white noise of the television. So, I slept on the couch and all during the night MSNBC wafted through the house.
MSNBC from about 11pm on shows two shows, Predator Raw and Lock Up. Predator Raw is a greatest hits compilation of Dateline's To Catch a Predator program. Lock Up basically goes to various state prisons and talks to the most demented convicts living behind these walls. Both shows really show humanity at its best.
For almost four weeks my brain was filled with these two programs. I think my bad moods were related to watching this stuff. I can't even begin to tell you how gross these shows were. That's saying something coming from me. I can't look at pudding the same way after watching the prison show. It was served from a huge vat with a large spoon and basically flung at plates and then served in door slats. Yummy!
Luckily, we started putting Sadie on a schedule where she gets pajamas and goes into the bed room in her bassinet. I get to sleep in a real bed and am no longer watching humanity at it's worst.
Thank God for small favors.
